Our Daily Bread

The object under the title Our Daily Bread refers to the Polish expression płacić jak za zboże (literally – “pay like for grain,” which means to overpay, pay through the nose) and the rich symbolism of grain. In many cultures and religions, ears of grain symbolise abundance, prosperity and the rebirth of life. The intricate construction consisting of seven gold-shining ears of grain, whose shape refers to the symbol of the American currency, can trigger a reflection on contemporary values: the importance of material possessions or the sanctity of the fruits of nature.
