Poland – Germany 0:1

Artists Tomasz Opania
Genre Installation
Edition Survival 10

The installation was found especially appealing by the mayor of Goerlitz, where it was first presented in public space in 2011. One might make a hypothetical assumption that if the situation was reversed and it was the German flag – instead of the Polish one – that had a hole shot through it by the ambitious football players of the Polish national team, he would have changed his enthusiastic attitude. On Polish ground, where tampering with the national colours is frowned upon, the damaged flag had to be immediately repaired. Far from perfection, but with the eagle in the right place, the act of darning the hole inspired the artist to give a new, informal title to his work: Got it, but survived.
