The work is based on various family stories from just after the war, when my mom’s parents came to Breslau. Being lodged in a beautiful, richly furnished German flat, they faced a dilemma – to stay and accept all these belongings they had been so unexpectedly given, or to relocate to an empty and dilapidated basement flat. Their life was at stake – there were bloody battles fought for the former German possessions. Later, German treasures suddenly reappeared in my grandmother’s life. A gold tooth found in the ground was used to make a new wedding band.
Belongings is a microdocumentary attempting to recreate the family history.
