A City of Automata

The lightbox shows an industrial landscape based on photographs taken from the Archives of the City of Łodź.
Manufacturing facilities have been an attractive and inspiring artistic motif for decades, and the industrial revolution itself provoked many manifestos and innovative formal solutions in 20th-century art.
Today, when industrial and postindustrial areas from that time are primarily associated with collapse, the monumental frame, showing a factory in Łodź working at full speed, induces nostalgia and unrest, especially due to its situation in a production floor deprived of its function, whose history dates back to the early 20th century.
