Public Aquarium
Inconspicuous at first sight, everyday objects sometimes become ‘litmus paper’ for social situations. The aesthetic object, which resembled a rubbish bin, naturally entered into a relation with the passers-by on the boulevard, thus becoming a relational form. The recipients, who mistook the artwork for a rubbish bin, treated it in accordance with its preconceived function, which on the one hand emphasised their ‘sensitivity’ to contemporary art, on the other – enabled them to use it freely. Public Aquarium is a transparent recording of the habits of urban users of green spaces.
