Burden
There could be no doubt that Wrocław University’s Chemistry Auditorium is a structure where nothing is random. Its form results from the prescribed functions, and every single architectural detail is justified. However, the current state of the edifice is in stark contrast with this concept.
Michał Gdak’s work consists of three seats that make a comment about today’s appearance of the auditorium. Since the object fails to meet the contemporary requirements for a public utility building, it has been a burden for Wrocław University for a number of years now. The seats, just like the building itself, fail to meet their function with respect to comfort, ergonomics and aesthetics.
