A flagpole symbolises power, state organisation and discipline. Raising the flag to the top of the mast takes place on national holidays and is accompanied by the solemn singing of the anthem. The symbolic gesture of tying a knot in a mast departs from a simple, unambiguous vision of history, the organisation of the state; it may also constitute a commentary on the condition of the society, the state and the policies it implements.
