Insignia
As objects symbolising power, insignia are directly connected with capital, which has always been used to solidify one’s position. By multiplying the main motif of the sculpture – cushions for the presentation of the royal attributes, which in this case are shown as empty, deteriorating items – the artist emphasises that even the greatest power and the capital supporting it may be fragile. Just like the palace interiors bear witness to the former glory while simultaneously revealing the process of forgetting, abandonment and decay, the arrangement of the cushions could evoke associations with the category of nobleness, elegance and solemnity, but also with building hierarchy and creating divisions in society.
