The functioning of Muzeum w Podziemiu (Museum in the Underground), which has been conceived as a patainstitution, can be perceived as an ersatz of the museum as such. The installation was created with the participation of the following artists: Karolina Freino, Jerzy Kosałka, The Nihilist Church, Kasper Lecnim, Karina Marusińska, Irmina Rusicka, Mariusz Tarkawian, Łukasz Trzciński, Liliana Zeic.

Muzeum w Podziemiu is an initiative at the intersection of post-conceptual practices and institutional criticism, but also a peculiar artisan’s establishment engaged in artistic production and prevention. What is important in creating the image and functioning of Muzeum w Podziemiu is distrust of the institutionalised system on the one hand, but on the other – the desire to imitate the actual functioning of institutions. Therefore, its area of interest includes critical, ironic-fictional, but also utilitarian and educational activities.

The functioning of Muzeum w Podziemiu is provoked by institutional fatigue. It does not define itself as an artist collective, but rather as a conceptual idea that uses artistic imagination to play with meanings and procedures.
