Arrest Warrant, 1988

Made in the 1980s, Jesus – Arrest Warrant is part of a wider series of “mockumentaries” connected with an attempt to bureaucratise the life of Jesus of Nazareth. The series also includes a number of documents: an identification card, a passport, service papers, etc. The arrest warrant is a special document, taking on new meanings in the context of its presentation – a building where police barracks used to be, and before 1989 – the seat of the Motorized Reserves of the Citizens’ Militia (ZOMO), whose main task was quelling the opposition’s demonstrations and fighting with the Church. Importantly, a fragment of the letter had been taken from an authentic indictment against the artist from 1982.
