Sound Artforum
curator: Daniel Brożek
On 1 January, 2018, the law on the protection of historical monuments in Poland was tightened. Using metal detectors to search for historical artefacts can now result in a fine or even imprisonment. Thus reaching for whatever lies underground is now illegal. The difference between a steel bottle cap and John Casimir’s crown ducat is just one octave. The installation consists of two circuits functioning like metal detectors, which react to each other’s presence. The magnetic field activated by their mutual proximity generates an unending song of feedback loop, which freezes the moment when capital disappears from the field of vision/hearing of the detectors, and the moment of meeting during the illegal act.
