Fifteen Centimetres
“At a glance, my work imitates the standard meter from Sevres, although it actually imitates the standard kilogram, because the standard meter is rather dull. As far as its contents are concerned, the work is an encrypted joke about how numbers become real in human life and the poetic role played by this incarnation. To pay my dues to contemporary physics, let me add that the correct and most precise standard for fifteen centimetres should be written more or less like this: ‘15 cm is the distance travelled by light in vacuum in 5.003461427972 × 10^–10 s.’”
