“The wealth of the Wallenberg-Pachaly family was accumulated over many generations, and acquiring influence in the city played a significant role in the process. In its heyday, the network of family connections reached the most important municipal institutions and offices. It was achieved through the proper division of roles: the sons did business while the daughters’ role was to marry the right person. The structure of the family could be likened to a palace as a building, in which the majestic façade hides an invisible network of connections within. Using a chalk line and a cable tracker, I bring this subcutaneous layer out in order to subject it to analysis and revaluation.”
