Seemingly Impossible Situation
Kapiczyńska and Gaik constructed a kind of fountain. A rather small object made from wood and glass was embedded in the informal sculpture park in front of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. Unfortunately, the mechanism inside the object turned out to be leaky and failed to work as a result. The metal bowl at the top of the installation thus remained empty instead of filling up with clean water to quench visitors’ thirst during those hot June days. Only the mighty roar of a fast-flowing river, which was coming from the base of the object, drew attention to the original message of the work – to consider the simultaneously destructive and life-giving force of the element.
