Running Through the Reeds

The painting shows a figure of a man eating on the run, a characteristic symbol of the ever-faster world of capitalism. The work is part of a series of paintings in which the artist reduces man to a sign that triggers associations with popular emoticons. The seemingly cheerful “stick figures” seem blurred, out of focus, as if they were about to dissolve. The contrast between the running silhouette, the pasted smile and bright colours endows the work with a funny yet disturbing character.
