Glory Days
“A luxury item is a sign of prestige. It adds splendour to collections amassed by the powerful, but at the same time it often becomes the first victim of a crisis. Chandeliers decorate palaces, churches or aristocratic residences. However, they are fragile and rarely last long. Subject to the caprices of fallen magnates on the brink of bankruptcy, when the creditors come, the glittering objects immediately attract attention. Too heavy and cumbersome to be carried away as a trophy, they are the first to fall victim to some inexplicable acts of vandalism and peculiar vengeance. And so they remain, knocked down and shattered – silent witnesses to violence, but also to the glory days.”
