Bars

Bars are an openwork closing of an opening (doors, windows), or constitute a kind of enclosure of a given space inside or outside a building. Bars are intended, among other things, to prohibit unwanted persons from entry.
Paliwoda in his installation uses a bar-like form consisting of Aristotle’s writings to fence off a certain space. The field of ideas, just like a mighty bar, can delimit a territory that is accessible to an individual, or that regulates how an individual moves. Paliwoda’s piece highlights certain ambiguities in understanding ideas, which on the one hand restrict one’s thinking by imposing tight limitations, and on the other – are capable of opening up new options and facilitating mental development.
